In my search I'd come across: * https://x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-midimap = a LV2 plugin... but I couldn't get it to load within pipewire only Ardour. But Ardour's MIDI chain doesn't allow plugins to change MIDI messages targeted at Ardour early enough. Works for SoftSynth(s) control but not Control Surface(s). * https://sourceforge.net/projects/midi-router-client/ = fits with JACK/Pipewire... but the configuration requires a *lot* of clicking. Every filter is a separate node in the JACK/Pipewire chain; therefore, the topology looks like a messy spiderweb. And the filters assume/expect that MIDI parameter values are ascending always; which doesn't work with my strange button scenatio.
